Mooseheart Boy's Basketball take the Regional Title!

MOOSEHEART, Feb. 26 – Like a Swiss Army Knife, Mooseheart's boys basketball team seems to have myriad objects to handle different situations, and so far in the Class 1A tournament, they have found the right device for every situation.

Friday, the team needed stifling defense to defeat the hosts to claim the Serena Regional title. This portion of the Ramblers' arsenal has been on display previously and keyed Mooseheart to previous wins over Hinckley-Big Rock and Westminster Christian.

But what was different in Friday's 63-49 victory over the Huskers was Michael Lowe's offense. The junior was especially hot in the first half, scoring 22 points. He finished with a game-high 30 points and did not play the final minutes as both teams emptied their benches.
“We have a big heart and we come to play every night,” Lowe said. “The best thing about our team is that it's the whole team. We don't have one star player. Everyone is our star player. It's either somebody different every night or it's the team collectively.”

The regional title is Mooseheart's third this decade, but its first since the Ramblers won the Class 1A title in 2013-14.

“When we came back from Christmas, Nelson Doe, our floor general, said ‘coach, our goal is to get to regionals and win the regional title,’” Mooseheart coach Pete Daneels said. “They stayed focused and I give them all the credit for getting this done.”

Friday's victory advances Mooseheart (16-6) to Tuesday's Ottawa Marquette Sectional and a semifinal matchup with top-ranked Annawan, victors of the Galva Regional and owners of a 27-3 record.

“We're ready for anything. We're going to come out and compete,” Lowe said.

Daneels said he hadn't put much thought into sectional opponents until after Friday's game ended.
“I didn't even know what night we'd be playing,” Daneels said. “I told them that all I cared about was regionals and if we won, then we'd start thinking about sectionals. Our focus had to be on regionals because we couldn't take anything for granted.”

Mooseheart got out to a hot start against Serena, jumping to a 13-2 lead. The margin remained 11 points – 19-8 at the quarter's end and Mooseheart kept the lead in double-digits most of the rest of the contest.

The Ramblers suffered a hiccup one minute into the second quarter when Wendell Lanphear was whistled for his third foul. Serena (15-15) rallied briefly, the Ramblers regained control, hit more outside shots and took a comfortable 38-14 halftime lead.

“We shot the heck out of the ball early,” Daneels said. “Then we didn't shoot the ball well and we had some defensive lapses. So we called timeout, got refocused and refocused the defense. Then we hit shots again before the half.”

While Lowe was dominating offensively, Na'Shawn Howze had a strong defensive game and added 14 points. Edgar Yusuf added 8 points for the Ramblers.

While Serena attempted to come back numerous times in the second half, Mooseheart's lead stayed above 15 most of the half and both teams gave bench players a chance to play late in the contest.

Jakob Setchell scored 23 points for Serena but the Huskers struggled otherwise offensively. Branden Franzen and Jacob McVey added 8 points apiece in their final game of the season.

Our Administrator has digitally scanned the Governors for Lodge 1088.

If you have any idea who served in the missing years or have a photo which can be scanned in to this list, please by all means send it to the Administrator. Many of the missing are relatives of members.

You can find the document by clicking the Document Tab on this site. Select Past Governors. then open that document.

Notice to Chairmen-- Sports Leagues Moose Membership Is Required
This is notice to all members that participate in Lodge sponsored Sports and Activity Leagues.

All members must be in good standing and must pay their dues as required. Members in arrears will NOT be allowed to participate in their respective leagues until their dues are brought current. This policy also applies to substitute players.

All League Chairs are notified to enforce this requirement. All chairs are required to turn in their rosters at the start of each season to the Administrator. The Administrator will monitor all league rosters.

For the Lodge 1088 Board we thank you for being a member of our Lodge and Order!
Saturday, June 1, 2013
Next meeting is Wednesday June 10th 7pm.

Do you like to ride motorcycles? Like to ride in a fun group? Like to do good things for activities and charity??

The MooseRiders will initially meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 pm. Lodge 1088 and Chapter 588 members are welcome and may hold the Group's office equally if elected by its Group membership.

The Activity Group has it own set of officers which report to the Lodge Board specifically to the Governor and Administrator.

The Governor has appointed a interim President to be a liaison to the Group to report all activities to the Board or at membership meetings.

Group election occur every December annually.

Interim Officers until November 30, 2013:
* Junior Past President
* President - Bruce Early
* Vice President - Donovan Wright
* Secretary/ * Treasurer - Open
* Road Captain - Morgan Tschida
* Sergeant-At-Arms Tom Polzin

There are no dues required; however, the Group may charge a monthly or yearly activity fee. You must be a member in good standing. All Lodge rules apply. All Finances are audited and governed.
Wednesday, May 1, 2013
This has always been the policy of the Moose International but not enforced as well as it should have been:

The front door will be closed unless staffed by a Moose Member or an Officer. Membership card access is required.

The House Committee will be enforcing this rule.

*If you are not current in your dues you will not be allowed to participate in Moose Horseshoe, Golf, Bowling, and Dart Leagues until your dues are paid current.

CHECK POLICY - Only members may write a check at the Lodge. The maximum allowable amount is $50.00 per Family (Husband/Wife). One check will only be accepted per day.

Why is this being done now?
1) If you go to any other Moose Lodge you are required to present your card to the server or pull-tab sellers. We should be no different.

2) Some members will not pay their dues because their membership card has meant little in terms of access.

PLEASE BE KIND TO THE SERVER. This is not their call as they are only doing what they are directed to by the House Committee and Moose International's Territorial Manager. We have asked the servers to use common sense in enforcing this.

We ask for your cooperation in this issue.

Reminder, we do not accept Business checks other than rentals or donations, 3rd party checks, or money orders.
With thanks,
The House Committee
