SSP Moose Lodge is awarded the gift of Life- an AED
What is an AED? An AED is an Automated (External) Electronic Defibrillator. When users are trained to properly use these devices they have saved lives. Early Defibrillation and CPR are the key to increasing survivability of sudden cardiac arrest events. AED's and quick initiation of CPR and the 911 system have documented saves and have been acclaimed throughout the media.

Lodge 1088 would like to thank the Machacek Family for getting us the AED in memory of Bernie Machacek who passed away earlier this spring. Bernie's family talked about how Bernie really loved life and this AED will give life. We would like to thank Joe Machacek who took the time to apply for the AED through the Mdewakanton Souix Communtiy Fire Department. Each year they have over 500 applicants for very few grants. Joe took the time to explain Bernie's love of life and the need for our aging members at the Lodge. We were selected based on Joe's request and application!

Many knew Bernie and the love he shared cooking Booya every fall at the Lodge. It was Bernie's wish to get an AED for the Lodge. Bernie passed his passion on to his son Donnie. Donnie is a valued member of our lodge and did a great job with the Booya this year. Donnie and his crew raised $694.00. The money will be used for a project of the famlies choosing in memory of Bernie and the Machacek family at the Lodge.

We would also like to thank the Mdewakanton Souix Community Fire Department and the Mdewakanton Souix Community who have generously donated the AED.

Thank you Joe & Donnie and the Machacek Family!

Why doesn't things get done at times?
For the past few weeks all we have heard is,"why is this not done?" or "why is that not done?"

I'll tell you why! Because Steve Miklya, Bob Flascher, Tom Polzin, and a small hand-full of others don't have enough hands or time. Just as medics treat and prioritize stable to critical patients, we do the same with jobs and tasks at the Lodge because we lack VOLUNTEERS to do some of the work. You have to prioritze your time and the tasks at hand to get things done.

We are a VOLUNTEER organization. That means most of us do not get paid with the exception of the Bartenders. We have full-time jobs to feed and clothe our families and put a roof over our heads just like you. After working 40-60 hours per week at our jobs we then give of our valuable time to volunteer for a great organization!

For many of our members we are just a bar. We have fun and play in many sporting events. That is ok but it is not what our mission is asking of us. We didn't do a good job of orienting you what is expected or what we are all about. Please don't misunderstand our gratitude that you are here at our Lodge because we are grateful. We appreciate your business in supporting our Lodge so we can do the great things we do. We are more than a bar. Our mission and values clearly state we are a Fraternal Organization that cares for the Children and Seniors so they may have a better life and put life into their years

There is also a limit to be accepting of some comments. If YOU don't volunteer to help in some small capacity don't criticize the small group that is. They are working hard. Keep your comments to yourself because all it does is inflame. I am tired of receiving comments from people unwilling to help but the first to criticize. If the comments or suggestions are well intentioned by all means-- ask don't tell. The people that are volunteering are doing their best with what little time they can and to the best of their abilities. And somewhere in the process they get to have a beverage of their choosing just like you but the difference is they keep hearing the comments. The point is they are volunteering as required of our membership and our mission.

So we challenge you. Get up off that bar stool and give a small effort doing any task. Pick up a peice of paper or waste, sweep the sidewalk, dust a window area, wash the windows, empty a trash bucket, pick up butts on the patio or in the grass, you get the point. You don't have to be an event chair or a Board Memeber. You don't have to ask permission. This is YOUR Lodge!! Think of your Lodge like your home. Would you leave something undone? Most would not. You would fix it or clean it up.

We have many great and talented members in our Lodge. Pay it forward and YOUR Lodge will be a better place. Being a positve force to get things done is a lot better than being a crabby Patty or a negative Nellie. You get a lot more done and that frees up time to do great work at our Lodge and for our Community.

Thank you to those who are volunteering or donating and making a difference! We are a better Lodge for it!!

Fraternal Order of Police ending gaming November 8th
Sunday and Monday Bingo, Pull-tabs, & Meat Raffles

We have been notified in writing from the FOP Board of Officers that FOP will cease gaming operations at the Lodge. This is due to low participation in pull-tabs and bingo. It is not economonically feasable in its current form.

We want to thank FOP for their generosity through many of the years! We will still be a partner with FOP in some form or fashion. Most FOP Board members are members of our Lodge also.

We are applying for our own Gaming License and have been cleared by the State of MN to make application. FOP has offered to help us in this transition. This process can take 6-9 months to re-obtain our license. We are moving forward and will ask the State Gaming office for expiditing our application if possible.

This has always been the policy of the Moose International but not enforced as well as it should have been:

The front door will be closed unless staffed by a Moose Member or an Officer. Membership card access is required.

We have given three weeks notice the House Committee will be enforcing this rule.

*If you are not current in your dues you will not be allowed to participate in Moose Horseshoe, Golf, Bowling, and Dart Leagues until your dues are paid current.

CHECK POLICY - Only members may write a check at the Lodge. The maximum allowable amount is $50.00 per Family (Husband/Wife). One check will only be accepted per day.

Why is this being done now?
1) If you go to any other Moose Lodge you are required to present your card to the server or pull-tab sellers. We should be no different.

2) Some members will not pay their dues because their membership card has meant little in terms of access.

PLEASE BE KIND TO THE SERVER. This is not their call as they are only doing what they are directed to by the House Committee and Moose International's Regional Manager. We have asked the servers to use common sense in enforcing this.

We ask for your cooperation in this issue.

Reminder, we do not accept Business checks other than rentals or donations, 3rd party checks, or money orders.
With thanks,
The House Committee
